OSLO - Norwegian nature conservation organisation Norges Naturvernforbund (Friends of the Earth Norway) has called on the country’s Government to encourage industry players to take a more responsible role and reduce the environmental impact of plastics and chemicals used in the textile industry.

The Oslo-based organisation has drawn up a list of demands for the Government to consider. Proposals include: investigation into the feasibility of a CO2 tax on all apparel imports, measures to prohibit fluorine finishes and other substances harmful to health and the environment in textiles, and methods for stakeholders to adopt circular thinking with a focus on increasing quality of materials and methods for recycling and waste management of textiles.
