DHAKA - Garment manufacturers in Bangladesh are planning to reopen their factories later this month despite the threat to workers posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) says it has decided to reopen its factories from April 26 in a bid to save the sector from economic collapse.
Defending the move, BGMEA president Rubana Huq said Bangladesh's main competitors in the sector, such as Vietnam and Cambodia, had kept factories open despite the coronavirus crisis.
