NEW DELHI - The Asia Floor Wage Alliance (AFWA), which campaigns to improve conditions in the garment industry, is calling on brands to make a one-off payment of two per cent of their annual sourcing budget to help protect workers from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

In a new report, entitled The Emperor Has No Clothes part two, AFWA also calls on brands and retailers to commit to paying a fair price for garments in future so that workers can receive a living wage and social security.

It says: "Global garment supply chains are organised in an opaque manner because of which the brands that appropriate most of the profit are not held accountable or responsible for purchasing practices that perpetuate poverty-level wages.
