GUATEMALA CITY – One of Guatemala’s largest outbreaks is said to have stemmed from a single garment factory in the country’s capital, at which it’s believed one employee has infected more than 200 of their peers recently, in a case which exemplifies how negligence towards health and safety can accelerate the contagion’s spread.
At the site of K.P. Textil, it’s reported that inadequate safety provisions from factory bosses has enabled one worker to continue to operate despite having caught COVID-19. Since, more than 200 of the company’s 900 staff have been diagnosed with the virus, with more test results pending, and the site has been closed and cordoned off.
