VICTORIA – Australian wool growing authority VFF Livestock has issued a reminder that from July 1, it will be mandatory that all sheep farmers administer pain relief prior to mulesing.

Mulesing is the controversial practice of removing wool-bearing skin from a sheep’s breach to mitigate parasitic infections like flystrike. Though an overwhelming effort has been made across the state to scrap this procedure already, VFF’s reminder is targeted at what it says is just 10 per cent of farmers which are yet to comply.
