VIENNA – A new report by animal rights organisation Four Paws has assessed the global fashion industry’s efforts to meet adequate welfare standards in its supply chains, finding that only 21 per cent of brands trace even a portion of the animal-derived materials they use.

It comes at a time when countless exposés are highlighting rampant levels of animal cruelty within fur, wool, leather and exotic skin supply chains.

Having assessed 77 firms, a majority of which are owned by nine of the world’s top 20 publicly listed fashion companies, Four Paws identified gaps in the lengths businesses go to in addressing animal welfare practices, and has outlined measures that it encourages companies to comply with.
