DHAKA - Bangladesh has been named as one of the worst countries in the world for workers' rights - with those in the garment industry among the worst affected, according to a new survey.

The 2020 ITUC Global Rights Index, produced by the International Trade Union Confederation, lists Bangladesh in the world’s ten worst countries for workers in 2020.

“Workers in Bangladesh were exposed to mass dismissals, arrests, violence and state repression against peaceful protests. In the garment sector, strikes were often met with extreme brutality by police forces,” the report says.
