BERKELEY – A group of scientists has today called for all per- and polyfluorinated substances (PFAS) to be treated as one single class of chemistry and said they should be avoided for nonessential uses due to their persistence in the environment and their toxicological profile.

This group of polyfluorinated compounds are commonly found in durable water repellent textile coatings, non-stick cookware, packaging and fire-retardant foams.

The paper notes that some companies have already employed a class-based approach to banning PFAS. For example, the authors point out that IKEA has phased out all PFAS in its textile products, while other businesses such Levi Strauss & Co. outlawed all PFAS in its products effective January 2018 ... many other brands have also done the same.
