WASHINGTON – The American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA) has written to the US President’s administration, and other authorities in the country, urging that harmonised guidelines be published if retail workers are to be protected amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

The AAFA, which represents more than 1,000 companies with collective sales upwards of US$400 billion, has said “one simple, consistent standard at the federal level, mandated and enforced at the state and local level, would go a long way in addressing this confusion and keeping the economy open.”

A copy of the letter sent to President Trump has also been addressed the heads of the National Governors Association, National Association of Counties, and the U.S. Conference of Mayors. Concurrently, the AAFA has requested that the Director of the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) consider updates to its Essential Critical Infrastructure Workforce advisory to include “facilities that practice safe re-open protocols.”
