LONDON - Accessories brand Elvis & Kresse is working with researchers from Queen Mary University of London’s School of Engineering and Materials Science on a project to build a carbon-free forge to recycle aluminium drinks cans into zips and buckles.

The company, which transforms reclaimed materials into luxury lifestyle accessories and donates half of the profits to charities, hopes to recycle some of the millions of aluminium cans that litter UK public spaces each year.

Funded as part of a £1.2 million (US$1.5m) award from the Business of Fashion, Textiles and Technology (BFTT) programme, the project will involve designing and building a renewably-powered forge to recycle cans into hardware.
