LONDON – A letter from the British Retail Consortium (BRC) addressed to the UK’s Secretary of the State for the Home Department Priti Patel calls for government action in tackling worker exploitation claims.

Backed by fashion brands and retailers including ASOS, River Island and New Look, as well as NGOs and investors, the letter comes hot on the heels of headline news regarding illegally low pay and poor working conditions at supplier factories in Leicester.

Fashion brands Boohoo and Quiz have both been linked to the sites in question, which pay workers as low as £3 an hour. BRC chief executive Helen Dickinson says: “Recent reports in the media demonstrate the urgent need for action before more workers are needlessly taken advantage of.”
