TETTNANG – Outdoor apparel brand Vaude says it's systematically ‘embedding reparability’ into its product development so that textiles, clothing and other goods can be fixed by consumers much more easily.

To make this happen, the German brand, which is already well-known for its environmental focus, has developed a new ‘Repair Index’ tool for in-house product design which scores items based on their ease of repair or whether components can be replaced to prolong the life of an item.

“With our Repair Index, we are strengthening our focus on reparability and reaffirming our stance against a throwaway society,” said Antje von Dewitz, CEO of Vaude. “It shows that we are taking our claim seriously. Our products should have a long service life and be reparable.”
