WAKEFIELD – In the latest installment of Cotton Horizons in Ecotextile News, cotton expert Simon Ferrigno looks for clarity in the field of ‘regenerative cotton’, and speaks with La Rhea Pepper, managing director of Textile Exchange (TE).

In Textile Exchange’s Preferred Fibers and Materials Market Report 2020, it’s said that ‘preferred cotton’ now accounts for 25 per cent of global cotton production and that of this, BCI cotton, Field to Market and Cotton Made in Africa (CMiA) are joined by the ‘regenerative’ kind.

But with no certified ‘regenerative cotton’ yet to be grown, and with no accompanying definition in TE’s report, it’s wondered whether this is a prime example of “buzzword bingo”.
