NEW YORK - Chanel heir David Wertheimer is leading an investment fund that aims to develop technology to extract from sugar cane sustainable alternatives to plastic and other materials used in clothing, shoes and accessories.

Wertheimer, the son of French billionaire businessman Gérard Wertheimer who owns Chanel in partnership with his brother Alain, is reportedly considering two businesses in Brazil.
