PHNOM PENH – The International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) has weighed in on the controversial arrests of labour rights activists in Cambodia, and has urged the country’s government to drop all charges against detainees, including those directed at former politician Rong Chhun.

Chhun’s arrest over public comments made about Cambodia’s handling of its borders with Vietnam has sparked major tensions between authorities and human and labour rights groups, leading to further questionable arrests.

The ITUC and Global Union Confederations has now spoken out about the situation, and believes all those which have been the victim of the country’s oppressive punishments should be freed.
