WASHINGTON DC – The US is reportedly set to block key exports from China’s Xinjiang region – including cotton – over allegations that they are produced using forced labour by Uyghur Muslims.
Up to 1.8 million Uyghurs, and other Turkic groups, have reportedly been rounded up in the Xinjiang region – China’s cotton growing hub – in what has been described as the largest mass detention of people since World War II.
The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is said to be preparing a Withhold Release Order (WRO) which would allow it to detain shipments based on suspicions of forced labour involvement.
