YANGON – Workers’ unions in Myanmar have labelled the Ministry of Labour’s COVID-19 guidelines “unfair”, with instructions largely laying the responsibility with garment factory employees to reduce the spread of the infection, rather than their employers.

Daw Phyo Sandar Soe, general secretary of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Myanmar, has reaffirmed that “workplace health and safety are the employer’s duty”. This comes as authorities are seriously contemplating closing some factories due to an increase in coronavirus cases.
