PORTLAND – Outdoor apparel brand Columbia Sportswear has announced a ban on alpaca fibre following the campaigning efforts of animal rights organisation PETA.

The ban sweeps across Columbia’s entire brand portfolio, and will see PrAna, Mountain Hardwear and Sorel rethink their approach as they adopt alternative materials.

“Columbia Sportswear's decision will go a long way in helping to prevent vulnerable alpacas from being abused and shorn bloody for their fleece,” says PETA executive vice president Tracy Reiman.
