WASHINGTON DC - Garment workers across the world are facing chronic food shortages following the fashion industry’s decision to cancel billions of pounds of orders at the start of the pandemic, according to a new report.

The Worker Rights Consortium (WRC) interviewed 396 garment workers across 158 factories in nine countries - Myanmar, India, Indonesia, Lesotho, Haiti, Ethiopia, El Salvador, Cambodia and Bangladesh - for the study.

Entitled 'Hunger in the Apparel Supply Chain', it found that 38 per cent had lost their jobs since the onset of the pandemic while the remainder had suffered an average 21 per cent drop in wages.
