CANBERRA - The Australian government has launched a five year action plan to crackdown on worker exploitation after some of the country's leading supermarkets and retail stores uncovered modern slavery risks in their supply chains.

The textiles industry was identified as a key risk, along with construction, by the government which is also reviewing its own procurement activities to fight slavery.

The action plan will involve government, business, trade unions and local communities, and will seek to investigate and prosecute cases of modern slavery, support victims, and improve data on the problem.
