LEEDS - The Future Fashion Factory research and development programme has secured £2 million (US$2.7m) in funding for new projects including sustainable alternatives to traditional materials and design processes.

The funding, achieved in three separate funding calls to industry partners, will be spread across 13 new innovation projects from a mixture of independent designers, heritage Yorkshire mills and fashion tech companies.

They include a freshwater-free alternative to down or polyester produced from a salt-tolerant plant that thrives in seawater put forward by SaltyCo, and HydroCotton’s approach to growing cotton with 80 per cent less water.
