KELHEIM – German firm Kelheim Fibres has become the first viscose manufacturer globally to attain EMAS (Eco Management and Audit Scheme) certification.
Developed by the European Union, EMAS encompasses the ISO 14001 standard on environmental management but holds higher expectations on transparency, challenging companies to report on their environmental goals in an annual EMAS Environmental Statement.
Kelheim’s CEO, Craig Barker, commented: “It’s not enough that our fibres are made from renewable resources and that they are fully biodegradable – our environmental awareness must include the whole production process and all that goes with it if we want to safeguard our credibility. The EMAS certification proves that we take this responsibility seriously.”
