BRUSSELS – The European Commission has launched the Green Consumption Pledge, a new initiative which will challenge signatories to align with three of five core principles addressing carbon emissions, transparency, industry best practices and the sale of ‘sustainable’ products.

Delivered under the New Consumer Agenda, a framework established last November with the mission statement of empowering consumers amidst the industry’s environmental drive, the pledge will welcome firms across all industries for an initial pilot phase that’ll run to January 2022.

The outcomes of signatory efforts will be assessed annually with the view to encouraging continued progress in line with the commission’s hopes of a sustainable economic recovery post COVID-19.
