AMSTERDAM – A total of 14 laboratories worldwide have now been approved to carry out a global test for the presence of genetically modified (GM) cotton throughout the organic cotton value chain.
Laboratories in China, Germany, India, the Netherlands and Portugal have successfully passed a proficiency test to carry out testing for genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in cottonseed, leaf, fibre and chemically unprocessed fibre-derived materials.
Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), the Organic Cotton Accelerator (OCA) and Textile Exchange, who partnered in 2019 to develop the ISO IWA 32:2019 protocol, declared it a significant milestone.
