LONDON – The director of the UK’s Textile Recycling Association (TRA), Alan Wheeler, has written to Health Secretary Matt Hancock asking for waste and recycling collection site operatives to be added to the list of priority groups to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Wheeler states that the waste and recycling sector “is one of the most important but widely overlooked industries” out there, and “its continuation throughout the pandemic has enabled this country (and the world) to still function”.

That said, he’s expressed concern on behalf of the personnel which clear waste and recycling drop-off areas across the country, who have experienced instances where members of the public aren’t adhering the social distancing guidelines and have been “coughing profusely”.
