LEEDS – UK supermarket chain ASDA has launched a new clothing take-back scheme which will incentivise shoppers to return unwanted items by offering a 10 per cent discount on its George brand of apparel.

The initiative has been kick-started in partnership with British recycling firm Yellow Octopus, and falls under ASDA’s George for Good sustainability strategy.

The retailer’s global professional lead for sustainable sourcing and quality, Mel Wilson, commented: “It’s really important for our customers and colleagues that we tackle the issue of not just sourcing our clothes more sustainably, but encouraging everyone in the UK to think about the issues of waste and how to make fashion and textiles more circular so that we really can reduce the number of garments that go into landfill.”
