WASHINGTON – Environmental organisation the Natural Fibers Alliance (NFA) has hit back at fashion designers calling for a ban on real fur in the UK, saying their “short-sighted” views could force businesses to turn to environmentally harmful synthetic materials.

The NFA believes the industry’s stance on fur isn’t as one sided as the likes of Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood and Katharine Hamnett made out in their letter to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson earlier this month.

Mike Brown, head of sustainability and communications at the NFA, said: “Designers should know freedom of expression, freedom of choice, and sustainability are vital in fashion.”
