BEIJING - Leading western fashion brands and retailers are being accused of watering down their opposition to the alleged use of forced labour in Xinjiang's cotton industry under pressure from the Chinese government and consumers.

The End Forced Labour Fashion group is compiling a list on social media of fashion companies which it says have either recently taken down forced labour statements from their websites or defended Xinjiang cotton.

Companies highlighted by social media users so far include Zara owner Inditex; PVH - owner of Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger; VF Corp - which owns The North Face; and Abercrombie & Fitch.
