GLOBAL - Tens of thousands of workers at factories which produce garments for leading fashion brands have been fired during the COVID-19 pandemic but illegally denied financial compensation, according to a new report.

The Worker Rights Consortium (WRC), which published the study, says it has identified 31 export garment factories, in nine countries, where there is evidence that the factory fired workers and then failed to pay them severance they legally earned.

Brands and retailers implicated in the report, entitled 'Fired, Then Robbed: Fashion Brands’ Complicity in Wage Theft during COVID-19', include Adidas, Amazon, H&M, Zara owners Inditex, Next, Nike, Target and Walmart.
