LONDON - Social auditors should be held legally liable for inaccurate reports which fail to uncover health and safety breaches in brands and retailers' supply chains, according to the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre (BHRRC).
A new report from the organisation says that companies overly rely on social auditors for due diligence of their supply chains despite several well-documented shortcomings.
They include social auditors reporting the construction quality of the Rana Plaza building in Bangladesh as “good” just months before it collapsed with the loss of more than 1,100 lives in 2013.
