Brands and retailers are currently under immense pressure from Chinese politicians and consumers to continue using cotton from the country's Xinjiang region despite forced labour concerns.

However, import restrictions triggered by human rights issues in the region - where more than a million Uyghur Muslims have been detained in the largest mass incarceration since the Holocaust - could still force western buyers to look elsewhere.
