LEICESTER - Investigators looking into allegations surrounding garment factories in Leicester say they have found no evidence of modern slavery but did find that workers were being paid less than the minimum wage and working in poor conditions.

Operation Tacit was launched last July after reports that workers in Leicester’s garment manufacturing sector - including suppliers to fast fashion company Boohoo - were being exploited.

It was led by the government’s Gangmaster and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) and the National Crime Agency along with officials from the Health and Safety Executive, Leicester City Council and HM Revenue and Customs.
