SEATTLE – Outdoor retailer REI has said in its latest impact report that suppliers and partners will be expected to ramp up their environmental and social initiatives with a focus on reducing climate impacts, using re-commerce and sourcing materials and processes that meet the requirements of certifications such as bluesign and Fair Trade.

These new expectations were included in the co-operative's latest impact report, released alongside its 2020 financials, that showed sales reached US$2.75 billion despite the pandemic (compared to US$3.1 billion in the prior reporting period), with membership standing strong at 20 million.

The move follows on from consultations with customers and part of REI’s strategy to reduce its carbon footprint by 55 per cent by the end of the decade.
