HONG KONG - Microbiologists say they have found a way to use 'sticky' bacteria to naturally collect and remove microplastic pollution from aquatic environments.

Researchers at Hong Kong Polytechnic University used bacteria to create microbe 'nets' to capture microplastics in water and form an easily disposable and recyclable 'blob'.

They took advantage of the natural tendency of bacteria to group together and stick to surfaces, creating an adhesive 'biofilm', to collect and remove microplastics.
