NEW YORK - The carbon impact of buying a product in-store in Europe is an average of 2.3 times higher than the impact of buying the same product online, according to a new study.

The report, entitled 'Is E-commerce Good for Europe?', carried out by consulting firm Oliver Wyman and commissioned by online giant Amazon, focuses on eight countries - France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden and the UK.

It focused on the CO2 emissions generated by sales of fashion, books and consumer electronics distribution, and found that fashion had the biggest CO2 impact in each country.
