One of the biggest problems for society over the course of the past two years during the pandemic was the forfeiture of free speech and informed debate by those who were cowed by the siren voices of the crowd and who, upon reflection, had valid scientific contributions to add to the debate around COVID-19.

It's now coming to light that it was unhealthy to have a situation where binary choices were thrown out to the court of public opinion, and where the winner takes all with the ‘losing’ side of the debate being shut down. There were no winners, after all.

Now though, sadly, we're starting to see a re-emergence of this in the textile sector through ‘natural is good – synthetic is bad’ messaging, accompanied by cherry-picked data and a total lack of holistic thinking. Polyester in particular, seems to be getting a real hammering.
