JYVÄSKYLÄ – Textile innovator Spinnova has created a new fibre from leather waste which it says can be used to make footwear, garments and leather accessories without the use of harmful chemicals.
Spinnova developed the fibre - which is said to combine the durability of leather with the lightweight feel of a traditional textile - in partnership with leather supplier KT Trading.
The two companies have established a new joint venture, Respin, to further develop the new product and are already building a pilot plant in Finland where production is due to start at the end of this year.
