PERTH – Nanollose has shipped its first batch of refined microbial cellulose feedstock to its Indian partner Birla Cellulose ready to be blended and spun into lyocell fibres for textiles and clothing.

Rather than using wood pulp as the raw materials for viscose and lyocell fibres, Nanollose ferments liquid organic waste from the food and beverage industries to produce ‘tree-free’ lyocell and viscose.

And while it’s still early days for the Australian company, it says it now has a stock of around 1.5 tonnes of crude cellulose product stored in China to be shipped to partners.
