LONDON – Israel has become the first country to ban the sale of animal fur, in a move welcomed by animal rights activists.

Minister of Environmental Protection Gila Gamliel signed the bill into law almost eight months after Israel outlined its intention to shun the animal-derived materials.

PETA vice president of international programmes, Mimi Bekhecki, commented: “Israel has just made history and put yet another nail in the cruel fur industry’s coffin.”
