OTTAWA – Sustainability organisation Fashion Takes Action (FTA) has published a new report focusing on Canada’s textile waste issue that outlines recommendations for scaling recycling infrastructure, improving collection services, introducing extended producer responsibility (EPR) and engaging consumers on circularity.
FTA’s report, A Feasibility Study of Textile Recycling in Canada, highlights how the extent of the country’s textile waste continues to fly under the radar as a key source of landfilled plastics.
“When putting all findings together, considering feedstock, investment costs, and technology readiness, the most promising technology to start a textile recycling industry in Canada is mechanical recycling," the report says.
