YANGON - Labour activists in Myanmar's biggest city of Yangon - the hub of the country's garment industry - say that 200 factories are set to close because of "economic instability" following the military coup.

The Federation of General Workers in Myanmar (FGWM) says the factories - all of which are located in Yangon's industrial zone - represent a third of the national industry.

Leading brands, including H&M, Bestseller and Primark, put a halt on sourcing from Myanmar following the military coup in February but have begun buying from their suppliers in the country again.
