YANGON - Members of the ACT initiative - including leading brands such as H&M, Zara owner Inditex and Primark - have issued guidance to protect garment workers in Myanmar who struggle to attend work because of the dangerous situation on the streets.

Garment workers have been at the heart of pro-democracy protests in Myanmar since the military seized control of the country in the February coup and have been subject to attacks from the security forces.

Now, the ACT (Action, Collaboration, Transformation) initiative has published guidance from its brand members in which they ask their suppliers not to sack workers who do not turn up to work because of safety concerns without compensation.
