LONDON – New research commissioned by environmental charity Hubbub claims that the UK government has demonstrated a flagrant disregard for the environmental and social challenges facing the fashion industry.

Figures reveal that just 19 policies in five strategies have been published to date, only five per cent of which have detailed costs and timeframes, suggesting authorities are guilty of paying in lip service.

Trewin Restorick, CEO of Hubbub, commented: “If the government is serious about meeting climate targets and ensuring fairer working conditions, then it has to ensure that the industry operates to the highest environmental and social standards.  This research reveals a shocking absence of leadership resulting in a lack of impactful and systemic change within the fashion sector.”
