WASHINGTON DC - Hong Kong-based textile and apparel manufacturer the Esquel Group is suing the US government after one of its subsidiaries was sanctioned because of alleged links to forced labour in China's Xinjiang region.

The Changji Esquel Textile Company was placed on the US Commerce Department's 'entity list' a year ago, prohibiting it from doing business with US suppliers, over alleged links to forced labour by incarcerated Uyghur Muslims.

The company filed the action in the federal district court for the District of Columbia, seeking relief from the "economic and reputational harms" caused by the blacklisting.
