WASHINGTON DC - The US government has issued an advisory notice warning of "heightened risks" to businesses with links to the Xinjiang region of China because of "horrific abuses" against Uyghur Muslims and other minority groups.

More than a million Uyghur Muslims are reportedly incarcerated in camps in the Xinjiang region - which supplies more than a fifth of the world's cotton - where many are allegedly subjected to forced labour.

The US issued its updated Xinjiang Supply Chain Business Advisory as China published a white paper in which it claimed to be committed to equal rights for all ethnic groups in Xinjiang.
