GLOBAL - Garment workers are owed US$11.85 billion in unpaid wages and severance money as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic so far, according to new research by the Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC).

The report, entitled 'Still Un(der)paid', builds on the CCC's August 2020 study, 'Un(der)paid in the Pandemic', to estimate the financial cost of the pandemic to supply chain workers from March 2020 through March 2021.

It says that, while apparel brands and retailers have returned to profitability, many garment workers are still facing severe hardship following a year in which employers withheld or reduced wages as they faced lockdowns and unethical purchasing practices.
