NEW SOUTH WALES – The Australian Wool Exchange has cast doubt over the future of its National Wool Declaration’s (NWD) ‘ceased mulesing’ status, citing confusion amongst farmers.
Last week, the industry body put an end to years of debate surrounding definitions on mulesing, releasing version 9.0 of its NWD which categorises alternative breech modification techniques for what they are.
With AWEX chief executive Mark Grave insisting the latest NWD “endeavours to create clarity” then, does ‘ceased mulesing’ have a place in the Australian wool sector?
