MONTREAL – Canadian apparel manufacturer Gildan Activewear has become the latest company to join the US Cotton Trust Protocol.

Launched to verify sustainability progress through data collection and third-party cooperation, the protocol aligns brands and growers of US cotton in best measuring their impacts across six areas: water use, greenhouse gas emissions, energy use, soil carbon, soil loss and land use efficiency.

“Joining the US Cotton Trust Protocol is a natural next step in our sustainability and transparency journey as it will increase transparency into our supply chain while also providing us with additional assurance that the cotton we purchase from the US is sustainably grown with low environmental and social risks,” Gildan president, Glenn Chamandy, said.
