DHAKA - Brands and trade unions have signed a new agreement on workplace safety in Bangladesh to replace the legally binding deal behind the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh which expires at the end of this month.

The new two year agreement - to be called the International Accord for Health and Safety in the Textile and Garment Industry - will come into effect the following day, 1st September.

It was confirmed by the IndustriALL global union, which was involved in the negotations, and Swedish fashion giant H&M, one of the brands which has signed up to the new deal.
