EUROPE – Various fashion industry non-profits have signed a letter addressed to the European Commission, calling for the adoption and incorporation of open data principles in its proposed Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive.

The Open Apparel Registry, Clean Clothes Campaign, Fashion Revolution and the Business and Human Rights Resource Centre, amongst others, believe authorities must integrate principles from the Open Data handbook to “unlock the legislation’s full potential”.

“These principles will ensure that one, the date produced as a result of the legislation is accessible to all stakeholders, rather than select groups, and two, that data collation can be automated, meaning accountability can be scaled to encompass all reporting entities across multiple sectors,” the letter says.
